“We believe the city of Port of Spain will be twinned with Shanghai” – Young

Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, Stuart Young said the possibility exists that the capital city of Port Of Spain will be twinned with Shanghai, China.

Last Tuesday, at Port Of Spain Corporation’s 104th Anniversary City Day 2018 Civic Reception at Murchison Brown Auditorium, City Hall, Port Of Spain, Young also said Port of Spain mayor Joel Martinez and his Council were “the gatekeepers of the city who must reject corruption and negativity” and remarked that “We believe the city of Port of Spain will be twinned with Shanghai.”

The theme was Honouring The Past, Embracing the Present, Progressing Towards A Smart Future.

Martinez said Port Of Spain was “a great city with a rich History.”

At Friday’s Statutory meeting, Martinez added: “I made a visit and we started the discussion with regard to the possibility of a twinning arrangement between Shanghai and Port of Spain. It was confirmed after Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley’s visit to China. The city would have gotten its blessings from the PM to start the discussion along the lines of twinning.”

Martinez also said: “I had a delegation from China visit me on May 18. They were here for the signing of the Phoenix Park Agreement. They came with Trade Minister Paula Gopee-Scoon. They are looking at the possibility of art and culture exchange between the two cities. We are also looking at the possibility of a “Chinatown.”
